Signs and Wonders IV

Signs and Wonders IV

Starting where we left off last at Acts 6:8.

Acts 6:8
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great
wonders and signs among the people.

Stephen did great wonders and signs among the people. I wonder why this is designated as GREAT wonders and signs. Are they different from just the regular signs and wonders that were being done by the Apostles and other believers?

This reminds me that Jesus said to the disciples that they would do even GREATER works than He did...

John 14:12-14
12"Most assuredly, I say to you, he

who believes in Me, the works that I
do he will do also; and greater works
than these he will do, because I go to
My Father.
13 "And whatever you ask in My name,

that I will do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
14 "If you ask anything in My name, I

will do it."

So once again Jesus tells us what is going to be happening in the future among not only the Apostles, but among believers. This statement is in line with Mark 16:15-18 where Jesus makes another statement concerning signs and wonders and their operation among believers.

The next testimony of something supernatural happening in these early day of the church is found in Acts chapter 8...

5 Then Philip went down to the city of

Samaria and preached Christ to them.
6 And the multitudes with one accord

heeded the things spoken by Philip,
hearing and seeing the miracles which
he did.
7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud

voice, came out of many who were
possessed; and many who were
paralyzed and lame were healed.
8 And there was great joy in that city.

Philip goes to the Samaritan city and preaches Jesus to them and they all listened to him, because the power of God was being manifested. People were being healed and demonically posessed people were being delivered. Philip was seeing the works that he saw Jesus do in his own ministry. He must of known and had great assurance that Jesus was with him. Jesus has told us that he would never leave us nor forsake us. We need to believe that He will manifest the power of God like He did for Stephen and Philip, for us. God is not a respector of persons and He said that these signs and wonders would be done for those who believe.
